Who We Are

Storybooks is an advocacy group for the Mill Valley Library working to further community-wide appreciation and support for the more than 100-year-old public library. As part of the Mill Valley Library Foundation, Storybooks supplements the Foundation’s fund-raising efforts by creating events designed to "bring books to life" for Mill Valley youth. The net proceeds of these efforts are used to fund programming and facilities for children and teens.

Testimonials

The overwhelming support we receive from the community is the inspiration behind the work of Storybooks. Here's what people are saying about the Storybook Ball…

My sons and I just arrived back from the Ball which was INCREDIBLE. The food, décor, games and activities, auction, raffle, music, entertainment…wow! It was obvious how much love and attention (and work!) went into it all. I know you're probably all breathing a sigh of relief. The afternoon was really special and amazing, and I know my children and I won't forget it.

The Storybook Ball was a hit with both kids. Jared loved the tea and goodies. Alyssa loved that she got earrings from the auction! And the face painter did a beautiful job painting a daisy on her face. As a parent, I loved that the goody boxes included the Alice in Wonderland chapter book and yes, we also got the pop-up book. In fact, we read the pop-up book that night!

Bodhi and I had such a wonderful time at the Storybook Ball yesterday, I cannot thank you enough. My hat goes off to all of you who created this event. We read the first chapter of Alice In Wonderland at bedtime!

My experiences at the Mill Valley Public Library have been unforgettable, that’s for sure. Joining Katie’s creative writing class a couple years ago was hilarious. Initially I was stunned, awestruck at the vibrant adolescent safehaven in the ultimate depths of one of our towns finest esetablishments, surrounded by creeks and tucked away into the dark arms of our redwood neighbors. Each class seemed to be a completely different life form; one week our “5 things” warmup would run through the entire class with heated chaotic discussion running rampage and the next would have a mellow and quiet ambiance where we’d read an assigned passage and then become engulfed in our next assignment. Although each class varied so drastically, from what we do, who comes, and what kind of snacks are brought, I wouldn’t have had it any other way. I love the feeling this mysterious Wednesday night underground class has brought me. There are no expectations and there is no routine therefore creating a tremendous comfort in knowing that each week there is a salvation for the eclectic group of kids of Mill Valley burrowed away at the bottom of the library, close to town, but far away from it all.
These are just a few accounts of some of the life changing moments that are secretly taking place on the very bottom floor of Mill Valley’s magical library.

Just wanted to congratulate you on a fabulous Storybook Ball. I so enjoyed coming to help with the set up. I’ve been involved, both on the professional and volunteer sides, with a number of fundraising events over the years, and I was so impressed at everyone’s genuine willingness to do whatever needed to be done to ensure a successful event. From the lanterns and centerpieces to the chairs and teacups, everything looked fantastic, truly as if you were stepping into ‘Alice in Wonderland.’ These events are not easy, and having a strong committee and able volunteers to help makes everything come together. Bravo to you & everyone involved with the Storybook Ball!!
