Joe Loya was a bank robber. That’s the first thing you should know. But in 1989, he was also a bank robber with a girlfriend. Her name was Janelle. He describes himself at that time as “that guy we all hate,” the liar, the flirt, the cheater: the exact sort of guy he’s planning on warning his daughter about.
Robbing banks tends to get people in trouble and, at some point during his six year relationship, Joe Loya got into trouble. He tried to make good with Janelle, but sometimes, well, love hurts. Sometimes, love can get you arrested. And sometimes, that’s a good thing.
Mr. Loya is a playright, essayist, TV commentator and writer. He’s written a book about his experiences as a criminal entitled “The Man Who Outgrew His Prison Cell: Confessions of a Bank Robber” and has also written a book called “The Red Mile,” under the pseudonym The Zombie Whisperer. And yes, he thinks that’s funny.
